Cowboy songs by John White

"Cowboy songs as sung by John White."
1934

There are two main sections on this homepage. This one, the cowboy song section, includes only material published as sheet music or song folios. I've tended to concentrate on collecting folios since the price of individual sheet music hasn't warranted the expense. For twice the money, I can buy folios with more lyrics -- and the lyrics are what most interest me. Works published with just the music I've not purchased.

The main entry point for the various items will be the cover title, or surname of the creator of the score. So a title like Asher Sizemore and Little Jimmie's songs of the soil will be found in the "A" section, while lyrics written by Sizemore, e.g., Sizemore, Asher How beautiful Heaven must be; I miss my dear sweet mother; I dreamed I searched heaven for you, will be filed in the "S" section.

Numbers sort first in my lists, followed by an alphabetical listing. Some sections have been divided into two or three parts, while a few have been combined, e.g., P-Q and X-Z. Links at the top and bottom of each list will move you back and forth through the various divisions.

Titles are taken mostly from the folio covers. I've also included other information such as the performer, etc. Michael Carr's Ole Faithful (1934) has at least two variant covers with two performers illustrated.

Magazine titles listed here, like Best Songs, include long runs of volumes and issue numbers. Some also include a little more information about contents or number of songs. Eventually, I'll try to just include "friendship" titles. These magazines contain a wealth of lyrics that may be useful for research. It's tempting to list all western/cowboy titles. Including this content will be a project for the next millennium.
